[1] Greetings.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hi All:
In keeping with last issue's posting on sourcing of products, list members
Quinn Halford and Matthew Kalash tells us about Mexican products at the
Dallas Merchant Center.
I've been examining the effectiveness of ads and how consumers shop. What
is your experience?
We updated the Greetings pages at
http://etailersdigest.com/resources/greetings.htm and we thank all who have
been kind enough to send us updates. We started that in 1997 and have been
inspired by all the people throughout the world who contributed to these
resources. We also updated the resources page at
http://etailersdigest.com/resources/ and the Members:Who Are You page at
http://etailersdigest.com/resources/members/
List member Joe Rotello has provided us information on his company
WindowGroup.
Tell us about your business which will remain for posterity at
our "Members: Who Are You?" site. This is a courtesy to our members who
contribute to our forum, and not merely a way to advertise for
free. Anything to do with the retail world, i.e., supplier, retailer,
consulting, etc. http://etailersdigest.com/resources/members/index.htm And
we have a form there for you to tell us about you. As I said when I first
proposed this idea, we have "known" each other for a long time, yet we
often don't know anything about each other. So, tell us who you are and
what you do.
Now, let's get to everything for the retailer.
Sincerely
George Matyjewicz, PhD

[2] How do they find you?
----------------------------------------------------------------
Lately I have been checking ads at various sources, and sending a note to
see ho well the ad draws. Surprisingly enough, I get a lot of replies
(better than 75%). The interesting thing seems to be that the ads aren't
drawing any attention!
I ask folks who use Google ads, speciality ad areas, and general banner ads
at sites I visit. In some cases, speciality ads for very focused products
do seem to work, i.e., companies looking for unique software like
Sarbanes-Oxley solutions will look at those speciality reference sites.
With travel, most of us use one of the Big 3 - Travelocity, Expedia or
Orbitz, although not all airlines list on these services. Which therefore
means if you want deals, you need to search the Big 3 and specific airlines
like Jet Blue, Southwest, Ryan Air (UK), etc.
What about consumers? Where do they go to find products? Do they use the
shopping bots? Search engines? Comparison sites like BizRate or ZDNet?
What is your experience?

[3] Mexico Pavilion Slated for DMC
----------------------------------------------------------------
A Mexico Pavilion of gift and home decor products will debut at the
Dallas Market Center (DMC) during the International Gift and Home
Accessories Market, June 2229. The 10,000 square feet of permanent
showroom space will be located on the sixth floor of the DMCs World Trade
Center, next to the Garden District, and will host some 50 to 60 exhibitors
showcasing Mexican-made products chosen for their clean lines, strong
colors, and contemporary design. The pavilion will be designed by the
Mexican architectural firm Legoretta & Legoretta, and the project is being
developed in cooperation with the Mexican association of gift
manufacturers, the Mexican Bank of Foreign Trade, and Mexican government
agencies. The products showcased in the Mexico Pavilion will be high
quality, yet available at very low price points, and are a great value for
retailers who want to offer fresh, innovative merchandise well above
keystone, said Victor dePineres, v.p. of international marketing at DMC.

That should be a great resource for those of us seeking unique gift
items. For a year, I was in Cozumel every 3 weeks, and developed a lot of
friends and contacts there. Mexican products are quite nice, especially
silver and leather.
If anybody is going to attend the Dallas show, let us hear about your
experiences.
