[1] Greetings.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hi All:
One of our list members,Darcy Silvers gave us
some additional facts about doing business in
Israel. Very interesting information.
We also have some information on retailing in
Brazil. I always wanted to go to Brazil, and now
maybe I will to check out opportunities. It is
the 5th largest country in the world and is the world's 12th largest market.
Pam Danziger is looking for sponsors for a
Pampered Pets Market study. That should be
interesting, as those of us with pets do spend a lot of money on them.
Now, let's get to everything for the retailer.
Sincerely

[2] Retailing in Israel
----------------------------------------------------------------
I just read your piece on retailing in Israel. I
returned from a trip to Israel a week ago, and
would argue that it was not scary traveling about
(and this was during the time when the two
soldiers and teenage hitchhiker were killed, and the other soldier kidnapped).
Also, most of the restaurants in Israel are NOT
kosher. In fact, only one McDonald's in Israel
is kosher; my family ate lunch there - it's in a strip mall in Beit Hashemesh.
Also interesting to note is the fact that Donald
Trump has announced plans to build a Tel Aviv
tower that would be Israels tallest. The
70-story Trump Tower Israel, slated to go up
across from the Diamond Exchange in Ramat Gan,
will be mainly residential. Media reports said
Trump paid $44 million for a building currently
on the site where the tower will be erected.
Israel, the 100th smallest country, with less
than 1/1000th of the world's population, can make
claim to the following (among many others

Thank you for that update Darcy. Very
interesting facts. Looks like you were there the same time as I.
We were looking for business opportunities in
Israel, and was pleasantly surprised at what we
found. It is a great place for technology, no doubt.
Thanks again.

[4] The Pampered Pets Market
----------------------------------------------------------------
Research sponsors needed for new consumer insights study
In 2006, the market for pet products and services
is expected to reach $38.4 billion, up 5.8
percent from total sales of $36.3 billion in
2005. While basic pet needs food, veterinary
care, medicines command the largest share of
the market, pet luxuries, i.e. things people buy
for their pets that are driven more by emotion
than basic needs, are the fastest growing segment in the pet market today.
Pet luxuries, or products and services bought for
pampered pets, represent the best opportunity for
pet product marketers, retailers and service
providers. People spend more lots more on
purchases that are driven by desire and passion,
than those bought out of pure need. So it is in
the realm of pet luxuries, rather than basic
necessities, where pet marketers need to explore.
Today nearly two-thirds of U.S. households own a
pet, or roughly 69.1 million homes, according to
the latest research from the American Pet
Products Manufacturers Association
(APPMA). Nearly half of all households (45 percent) own more than one pet.
Commenting on the pet market, the APPMA says
that the humanization of pets is one of the
biggest trends in the pet market today. That
trend will be the major thrust of a new research
project to be undertaken jointly by Unity
Marketing, experts in the luxury market, and
Insights2, product and market innovation specialists.
Companies that Want to Explore Marketing
Opportunities in the Pampered Pet Market Are
Needed to Sponsor the Research Effort
This research initiative will focus specifically
on the needs, desires, passions of parents and
their pampered pets. Sponsors are needed to
support this research effort. Pet product
companies, pet specialty retailers, including
internet and direct marketers, and pet services
companies will benefit from the new insights into
the rapidly growing luxury pet market.
Timing
Unity Marketing plans to conduct the research and
publish the final report during September-December 2006.
