We all know about Black Friday - the day after
Thanksgiving, when retailers learn if they will
be in the black for the year. Black Friday used
to be the biggest shopping day of the year, but
has slipped to number two behind the Saturday before Christmas.
Cyber Monday is new, the recently nicknamed
kick-off to the online shopping season. Cyber
Monday was largely invented by the online retail
industry to match Black Friday. It's called Cyber
Monday because it is the first day back to work
after Black Friday, and a day when employees shop online, rather than work.
